For as long as I can remember I have always been unhappy with either the way I look, how I feel in and out of clothes and with what the numbers said on the scales.
I would constantly be trying out the latest ‘fad diets’, in the hope of a quick fix and magical overnight weight loss along with being on and off with exercise and healthy eating regimes.
Despite all of the above I was never really that driven or determined to do something about this and make a change or a commitment to achieve my goals that I set out so clearly in my head.
I suppose at the time it was never a priority of that important to me otherwise something would have happened (I only believe this now knowing what I do and have achieved- people always say you will only lose weight and change your lifestyle if you truly want to - I can say it is very true)
After the second time of booking appointments to find out about the costs of lipo- suction and other cosmetic procedures to change the way I looked and felt I thought enough is enough and took the step of contacting James after a recommendation from a parent at work.
We spoke on the phone for over an hour and then arranged our first meeting in person over coffee. After an hour I really started to see and hear for myself how negative I was about me and how unhealthy extreme and unnecessary lifestyle choices were really getting to me.
James was amazing and quickly reassured me that this was not the way to go about things and helped me to start to plan out new healthy eating and exercise regimes and routines that were manageable, sustainable and sensible.
After the first 4 weeks of attending group training sessions, I knew I would never look back. I not only saw physical changes in the way I looked and how my body was becoming stronger and more toned, but more noticeably was the change in my attitude and zest towards life, a love for fitness and a new me.
When I first started my training sessions with James I was doing quite a bit of exercise and thought I was quite fit but soon found that the excessive exercise (cardio focused) that I had been doing, hadn’t really been pushing my body to its limits and what I could achieve.
I was shocked that after an hour of lifting relatively light weights and only doing little amounts of or no high intense cardio exercises that I was so sweaty and out of breath. I ached so much the next day but kept pushing myself to do more with James encouragement and support.
I watched others in these sessions lifting huge weights and doing chin ups, pull ups and press ups which they made look super easy and thought I want to be able to do that and set myself a challenge.
Week after week I became stronger and stronger and started lifting more weight.
I now am proud to say that I was the first girl able to front squat holding a 2 20kg kettlebells (even doing this before some men), I did a duck walk which is a very challenging exercise (see picture) holding 8kg kettlebells over my head.
Perform press ups with weights on my back and making them more intense with band resistance and finally achieved my own personal challenge of doing a pull up/ chin up without any band at all (I’m working on doing more than two but it’s all progress).
The changes I see in my body are amazing but the changes in my mind are what have helped me to achieve what I thought would be impossible.
Nearly 8 months on from when I started I am 2 1/2 stone lighter and have completely overhauled my outlook on life.
I am stronger, happier, healthier and can truly say I value and belief in myself and how far I have come.
A year ago, I never would have thought I would have been able to run 1 mile would want to for that matter and this year have already achieved my first 10k and have a half marathon, battle of the knights and the three peaks challenge to conquer still.
None of this would have been achievable without James and JMF and want to say thank you for the incredible journey I have been on.
Anyone thinking of joining should stop thinking and just do it. You will not be disappointed.
